If you're going steal a Citibike, do remember to paint over the entire thing before taking it out for a spin.

A glitch in Citi Bike's system inadvertently exposed the personal information — including credit card numbers — of more than 1,000 users in mid-April, and the Department of Transportation has no explanation for why customers weren't notified until July 18.

In the last six weeks, the Citi Bike has become an omnipresent New York City character, appearing on a New Yorker cover, landing a supporting role with Leonardo DiCaprio's e-cigarette, and causing a Wall Street Journal board member nearly to burst into angry, elitist flames over the pernicious "all-powerful bike lobby."

The New York Post has a story this morning on rich people getting the city to remove or relocate the much-discussed Citi Bike racks, including from the block where media billionaire Barry Diller's corporate headquarters are located in Chelsea, the block of a luxury Midtown East condo building, and the block where John Slattery lives in SoHo.

Dorothy Rabinowitz will not be intimidated by the all-powerful bicycle lobby. She will stand in defiance, even as her beloved city is crushed under the thumb of a psychotic mob of cyclists who feel like they "don't owe you anything."

Decades after the U.S. and British Air Forces firebombed the German city of Dresden to the ground, its citizens have finally taken their revenge by filling New York with so-called "modern firebombs": bicycles.

The rich have a complicated relationship with New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg. They enjoy that he has developed a city that caters almost exclusively to them, but hate that it is almost exclusively theirs. There are now also those pesky little plebeians riding around on their brand-new bicycles (read: death chariots).

"Just Buy a Bike!" the editors of the New York Observer encourage their readers today. That is, if you must ride a bike—and the only reason the Observer editors can think of that you might want to is "to feel morally superior"—you should not participate in the Citi Bike bike share program, inaugurated this week.
