One Sorority Finally Comes Out Against Bullshit Campus Sexual Assault Bill

Allie Jones · 11/12/15 02:45PM

The so-called “Safe Campus Act,” a nonsense bill that would keep colleges from punishing rapists unless victims agree to go to the police, had seemingly unanimous support from national fraternity and sorority organizations—until today. Alpha Phi has become the first sorority to come out against the bill in a statement made “at the request of many of our members and chapters.”

Senator Claire McCaskill Announces Support of Gay Marriage

Taylor Berman · 03/24/13 10:38PM

This has been a big month for prominent politicians coming out in favor of gay marriage. First, Bill Clinton publicly disavowed the anti-gay marriage bill he signed into law in 1996. One week later, it was Republican Senator Rob Portman's turn, and just two years after his own son came out as gay. Then, last week, it was Hillary Clinton, which was surprising only because she hadn't already made such an announcement. And now Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill has announced her support, and via Tumblr, no less.

Todd Akin Says He Knows He's Winning Because His Female Opponent Is Getting Less 'Ladylike'

Cord Jefferson · 09/27/12 03:34PM

You might remember Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin from the time he said last month that women who suffer "legitimate" rapes undergo biological processes that prevent them from getting pregnant. It was one of the wrongest things a politician has said publicly in modern America, and Akin was criticized from people on both the left and the right. All that is apparently behind us now (what with Akin's former GOP critics supporting him again), and thus Akin is back to saying archaic nonsense about women.

What Republicans Want in Exchange for Raising the Debt Ceiling

Jim Newell · 04/21/11 02:37PM

The federal government is expected to reach its $14.3 trillion borrowing limit on or around May 16. House Republicans have been demanding deep spending cuts in exchange for a vote to raise this ceiling, even though no congressional leader would really allow the United States government to reach this limit and default on its debt shortly afterwards, thereby destroying the global economy forever.
