Five days before Thanksgiving, the adored Brooklyn indie rock venue Death By Audio shut its doors after seven years. When DBA's founders announced its demise in September, they did not explain why they were suddenly closing, and they declined comment when we stated what everyone knew to be true: that they were being pushed out to make room for Vice's new offices. But in a new interview, DBA founder Edan Wilbur explains exactly what happens when Vice consumes your building.

As we told you last month, major media company Vice (whose average salary is allegedly $70,000 a year), will be displacing several beloved institutions in the South Williamsburg area in order to build out its own 75,000-square foot new office space. The first to close, on November 22nd, is DIY music venue Death By Audio.

Yesterday, the longtime Brooklyn music and art venue Glasslands announced that it would be closing on New Year's Day 2015. Why? Because the marketing conglomerate Vice Media has already started building its huge new office near the property where Glasslands now stands, and will eventually get to Glasslands itself.
