Pepsi, the Dixie Chicks, and the Manson ranch
Gawker · 04/08/03 05:11PMA Gawker spy writes, "[Country music band and anti-war critics] The Dixie Chicks recently wrapped on a commercial for Pepsi/Lipton Brisk. Unbeknownst to the Chicks and the client, the ad agency, Leo Burnett, rented out the former Manson Ranch in California for the shoot. Pepsi is currently debating if the commercial will ever air, and has hired a high-profile public relations firm to handle this if it leaks to the media." (No word on whether this song was playing in the background.) UPDATE from another reader: "It's the Spahn Movie Ranch. Named after it's geriatric owner (then), now dead. Then, there was the Barker Ranch after that. A gulch in Death Valley where they lived in an old school bus and jeeps and tents. There was never a Manson Ranch. The Manson 'family' were squatters at best."
