Walk Of Shame Or Walk Of Glory?

Douglas Reinhardt · 07/10/08 11:35AM

At the afterparty for his latest film, Josh Hartnett managed to crack a slight smile as he saw Kirsten Dunst tucked away in a corner. Hartnett slowly lumbered across the room and over to an increasingly uncomfortable Dunst. Hartnett expressed his gratitude to Dunst for coming out to the party and in a very faint whisper said that it meant a lot to him. Dunst nodded as she looked for an escape from the conversation. Lucky for Dunst, her Elizabethtown co-star Susan Sarandon walked by at that exact moment. Dunst grabbed Sarandon by the shoulder and began to talk a mile a minute about what happened with the 2005 Cameron Crowe film.

Getty and Flickr partnership took too long

Yahoo's photo-sharing subsidiary, Flickr, announced it has partnered with Getty Images to streamline the process for Getty's photo editors who want to buy images from Flickr users. For the privilege, Getty will pay Flickr a fee. It's a good idea, but one that took to long to come to fruition. Two years ago at a party in New York, Flickr cofounder Stewart Buttefield told me one way the photo-sharing site could finally make money for Yahoo:

So, I Just Put My Hand On The Black Spot?

Douglas Reinhardt · 07/07/08 02:20PM

Get Smart star Anne Hathaway implemented a Garanimals style system to help with her co-star Steve Carell's hand placement during a photo call in Rome. Hathaway had noticed at prior press conferences and premieres that Carell seemed unsure as to where he should put his hands, so Hathaway purchased this dress to help him out. Carell appreciated what he called the "hand squares on the dress" and thanked Hathaway for being so conscientious.

Storm Troopers Just Wanna Have Fun!

Douglas Reinhardt · 07/02/08 01:05PM

A Strom Trooper for the Galactic Empire snuck away from a mission on the planet of Tatooine to a county fair on a nearby planet. The trooper felt his search for a couple of droids was becoming pointless and decided to play a little hooky instead. The trooper added, "It's like what that Ferris Bueller guy said, 'Life goes by pretty fast.' So what's the point of looking for a couple of droids when there's this super sweet slide and all of these other rides." The trooper used his Empire discount to get unlimited ride tickets. Before getting on the Tilt-A-Whirl, the Trooper said, "Those droids will be there tomorrow, but how often do you get to ride on the Tilt-A-Whirl?"

It's Going To Be Okay, Slugger. They'll Forget About It In A Couple Of Weeks

The Departed's Matt Damon comforted his co-star Mark Wahlberg during the fifth game of the Los Angeles Lakers-Boston Celtics NBA finals about the poor reviews Wahlberg has been receiving for his work in The Happening. Wahlberg felt especially hurt about the negative comments about his acting. Wahlberg said, "I really tried with my performance. I did my research. I remembered my lines. But, I gotta admit, I was totally caught off-guard by the fact that we were supposed to be making a B-movie. Nobody told me that."

Spider-Man Commands You To Stop Sucking, Kobe!

Douglas Reinhardt · 06/13/08 05:10PM

Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire attempted to use whatever superpowers he has as an actor to get the Los Angeles Lakers to turn it around in the third quarter of their game on Thursday night. And while Jennifer Meyer, Maguire's wife, wanted the home team to maintain its lead as much as her husband, she had to explain to Maguire that he had no actual superpowers. Maguire told his wife that he's Spider-Man and everybody does what Spider-Man says. Meyer said, "Tobey, that was just a movie and this is just a game." Maguire quietly took his seat and said that the Lakers didn't lose when he came to game three with Lukas Haas. To which Meyer replied, "Well, maybe you should just marry him then. I mean, it's legal now."

Out, Out and Away as TV Prepares for World's First Gay Superhero

STV · 05/22/08 04:20PM

The recent spike in comics franchises and other superhero entertainment could soon take an especially fabulous turn if Perry Moore gets his way. The novelist and Chronicles of Narnia co-producer (pictured) blabbed to Vulture this week about negotiations to adapt his young adult novel Hero — about Thom Creed, "the world's first gay superhero" — for TV; Moore expects a deal with one of two unnamed networks any day now, but he isn't waiting around to affirm its credibility among gays, fanboys, gay fanboys, executives and myriad other demographic permutations:

Today in Cannes Hell: Spike Lee vs. The World, 'Che' Unveiled and Mouthbreathing Over Penelope Cruz

STV · 05/21/08 11:55AM

Only a few days remain before Cannes ends and we can roll our bleary eyes from the backs of our heads. In the meantime, the rubbernecker in us can't help but take an interest in Spike Lee's latest sortie against the Hollywood establishment — this time as personified by Cannes darling Clint Eastwood, whom Lee railed against while promoting his upcoming Afro-centric World War II drama Miracle at St. Anna:

Today in Cannes Hell: Gwyneth Paltrow's Breast, Critic Riots and a Word with Charlie Kaufman

STV · 05/20/08 11:40AM

With the minor exception of missing out on Jim Toback's documentary on Mike Tyson (which will screen here this fall anyway — we can wait), the only regret we have so far about sitting out the Cannes Film Festival is our absence at the mini-riot that preceded the press screening of director James Gray's drama Two Lovers, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Gwyneth Paltrow. That's when we're at our best, as were Lou Lumenick and the "major U.S. film critic" (*cough* Manohla Dargis *cough*) who apparently exclaimed, "I'm not going to wait an hour for f—-ing James Gray" before an ensuing screening delay, shoving match and seating free-for-all.

Shocker! Clint Eastwood and Angelina Jolie Make Oscar-Bait Drama Everybody Loves

STV · 05/20/08 11:00AM

Ho-hum. Clint Eastwood went to Cannes and all he got were more late-career raves, award mentions, his star Angelina Jolie on his arm and perhaps the most meta title switcheroo in Hollywood history: The Exchange (née Changeling) has all kinds of fans at the festival, where the child-disappearance drama premieres today in competition and already has Variety's Todd McCarthy running back at his hotel room to change his pants:

Today in Cannes Hell: Indy, Indy, Indy! (And Harvey and Woody)

STV · 05/19/08 12:35PM

The first-in-the-world hype accompanying Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull's premiere at Cannes appears to remain the only story of interest to most festivalgoers, with everything from live-blogs of the screening to more meditative reads ("I was bored out of my mind," writes Manohla Dargis) peppering the spectrum of feedback. Of course there's always Harvey Weinstein, who continues his Cannes dealings with impunity despite our corporate death sentence leveled last week. And people actually seem to like Woody Allen's latest! It's the '80s all over again!
