After ejaculating 5 million barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, BP doled out $750 million to state and local governments in a panicked attempt to seem less evil. The states, being dutiful stewards of the environment, directed the money to cleanup and mitigation. Kidding! No, they spent it on the Doobie Brothers and iPads.

A new government assent says 25,000-30,000 barrels a day were flowing into the gulf before BPs semi-successful containment scheme. That's one Exxon Valdez every 8-10 days! Previous estimates had put the flow at 12,000-19,000/day. [NYT]

Respected environmental theorist Rush Limbaugh was talking about the disastrous BP oil spill on the radio today and he wanted everyone to cool it with the doom and gloom. The eternal optimist says this could be good for the beach.
