cityfile · 02/08/10 09:47AM

Conan O'Brien's tenure as Tonight Show host has ended, but it looks like he and wife Liza may be planning to stay in LA, since they're reportedly looking to unload their penthouse duplex at the Majestic on Central Park West. The 17th and 18th-floor spread, which features three terraces and Central Park Views, is being "quietly" shopped around for $35 million. [NYP]
• The buyer of Bernie and Ruth Madoff's penthouse has been revealed. It's Al Kahn, the CEO of 4Kids Entertainment and the man behind Pokemon and the Cabbage Patch Kids, who is said to be buying the place at at 133 East 64th Street for "just under" the asking price of $8.9 million. [NYP, previously]
Jimmie Johnson has unloaded one apartment and picked up another. The Nascar driver has sold his 3,200-square-foot loft at 32 West 18th Street, which he put on the market last year, for $4 million. Meanwhile, he and his wife paid $8.33 million for a condo in the Superior Ink building on W. 12th St. [NYT]

Charges for Kanye, Wedding Plans for Mariah

cityfile · 03/19/09 05:57AM

• Not such good news for Kanye West: He was charged with misdemeanor battery, grand theft and vandalism yesterday in connection with the fight he had with a bunch of photographers at LAX back in September. He could face up to 2 1/2 years in jail if convicted, although that's highly unlikely. And since they're not felony charges, he isn't expected to appear in court when he's arraigned on April 14. [NYDN, LAT, AP]
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are supposedly planning a massive—but totally top-secret!—second wedding, just in time for their one-year anniversary in April. But please don't tell anyone. [In Touch]
• James Franco is having a hard time moving around the Columbia University campus now that so many of his fans have figured out his class schedule. [P6]
• John Mayer's rep says he is not writing a tell-all book about Jennifer Aniston, despite what you may have read in Star. [MSNBC]

A-Rod Loses Out at 15 CPW

cityfile · 03/18/09 10:13AM

It looks like Alex Rodriguez's prowess on the baseball field doesn't extend to the real estate market. The Yankees third baseman, who struggled to unload his Trump Park Avenue condo and has yet to find a buyer for his Coral Gables manse, failed to get his first choice when it came time to rent an apartment at 15 Central Park West, too. Financier Henry Silverman and his much-younger girlfriend ended up snatching the $40,000-a-month, three-bedroom pad A-Rod wanted at the last minute, so he's since been forced to suffer the indignity of renting the smaller $30,000-a-month condo next door instead. And he couldn't even negotiate a discount! Poor thing. [NYO]

• The markets are down this morning as the House and Senate prepare to vote on the $789 billion economic stimulus package. [CNN]
• It's still unclear whether Wall Street got the message that "that high living on the corporate tab is now unacceptable." That's comforting to hear. [Reuters]
Leon Black's Apollo has tapped Henry Silverman as COO. [WSJ]
• AIG's financial products unit is now under investigation in Britain. [DB]
• Morgan Stanley has suspended its global head of real estate investing. [FT]

The Silvermans Split Up

cityfile · 11/04/08 01:32PM

Looks like it's the end of the line for financier Henry Silverman and his wife Nancy. David Patrick Columbia hears the former Blackstone honcho and Realogy CEO is splitting up with his wife to "taste the wines of youth," if you catch his drift. "This would be, I would imagine, a very expensive divorce." [NYSD]

A one-time lieutenant to Saul Steinberg and the former head of merchant banking at Steve Schwarzman and Pete Peterson's Blackstone Group, Silverman most recently served as the CEO of Realogy, the parent company of real estate brokerages Century 21, Coldwell Banker, Sotheby's, and Corcoran.
