DEA agents helped shoot up a boatload of innocent civilians last year along the the Honduran Mosquito Coast, killing three, the New Yorker's Mattathias Schwartz reports. Aside from stonewalling any investigation, the U.S. response was this: "These are not innocent communities."

Elections in Honduras have just gone dark: the electoral count came to an abrupt stop about sixty percent of the way through, the candidates have disappeared from public view, and election officials have been totally silent. Elections observers, who the AP says initially called the election "clean," now have no comment.

More than 350 people are dead after fire consumed a crowded prison in Honduras late Tuesday night. The official word is that the blaze started when an inmate purposely set fire to his own mattress. Some 100 inmates died in their cells, as firefighters were unable to locate keys to free them.

Pregnantly popping Ana Belis Hernandez of Tegucigalpa, Honduras had to deliver her baby on a city sidewalk all by her lonesome after the taxi driver who was supposed to take her to the hospital decided that he didn't want to deal with all that drama and gore and kicked her out of his car.
