'NYT Magazine' Green Issue Not Actually Green

Rebecca · 04/21/08 09:10AM

It was self-righteous and catered to the rich. But was the New York Times Magazine "Green Issue" green enough? Not according to anyone who actually cares about the future of this precious island we call Planet Earth. The magazine was printed on non-recycled paper. Egad! That means all those eco-friendly car ads were actually leaving a gigantic carbon footprint. Vanity Fair's annual green issues are also printed on non-recylced paper. It's like these magazines really just care about the advertising market for environmentalism instead of the actual environment. Let the Times Magazine Green Issue be a lesson: Never care about anything unless you're prepared to be called out as total a hypocrite. [Folio]

Nobody's Sure What Matt Sanchez Is Talking About

Hamilton Nolan · 04/10/08 02:28PM

The editors at Guanabee.com made the mistake of engaging gay porn star-turned-conservative commentator Matt Sanchez in a dialog about his recent war against gay Gawkerdom and other causes. It only takes one answer from Sanchez to prompt the response "We're not really sure what the hell that meant." He then goes on to lie, babble non-sequiturs, and spout right-wing platitudes that he seems to have selected only for their outrageousness. But we're done being outraged by Matt Sanchez; we feel kind of sorry for him now. He could probably use a good therapist. After the jump, the interview's convoluted highlights.

Is Homewrecker Laurie David A Secret "Carbon Sasquatch"?

Emily Gould · 07/24/07 01:00PM

Inconvenient Truth-teller Laurie David busted up her marriage to intermittently hilarious Jew Larry David to be with a married Republican contractor named Bart Thorpe, the NY Post reported Sunday, confirming weeks of rumors and including damning details like "giggling and laughing, Laurie David slipped her feet into Thorpe's shoes after climbing out of his boat." S(c)andalous! But according to a commenter on green gossip blog Ecorazzi (yes really), there's a bit more to the story.

Joshua Ferris Running Scared Of Foer-Krauss Mafia

Emily Gould · 06/01/07 11:22AM

Young Joshua Ferris's debut about working at an ad agency at the tail end of the dot-com boom is one of our favorite books we've read in a while, so it pains us to have to acknowledge that he is a pussy. At his book party, he told us in no uncertain terms that Jonathan Safran Foer and Nicole Krauss "deserve all the shit you guys heap on them." Ok, it was a festive occasion and perhaps the celebratory cocktails had loosened Ferris's lips, but! Here's his current take on whether or not The Most Important, Rich, and Precocious Literary Couple Of Our Time deserve to be mocked: "Whatever shit they may or may not have deserved is far less than the shit I deserve for having said publicly that they deserved any shit whatsoever. I spoke unnecessarily of a very minor matter about which I knew very little, and so despite the likelihood that my comments didn't even reach them, I'm glad you asked, so that I can set the record straight: I'm the shitheel." I'll say!
