After the shooting death of NYPD Officer Randolph Holder, New York City’s programs focused on providing offenders with alternatives to prison time have come under new scrutiny, the New York Times reports today. Opponents of these programs are welcome to debate against their merits (they’d be wrong about that too), but they cannot claim in good faith that the programs had a single thing to do with Holder’s death.

Subway Shooter Willie Groomes Will Not Be Charged in Slaying

Willie Groomes, a retired correction officer who shot and killed 32-year-old Gilbert Drogheo in Brooklyn’s Borough Hall subway station in March, will not be indicted in the shooting, Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson announced in a statement this evening.

The man in line to become the next district attorney in Brooklyn says that he will not prosecute people caught with less than 15 grams of weed, ganja, skunk, cheeba cheeba yall. This could be great for Brooklyn's brand cachet.
