Teacher Driving to Chaperone Prom Dies After Crash With Prom-Bound Teens
A Georgia teacher driving to chaperone her high school’s prom died Saturday night after two students on their way to the same prom crashed into her car.
Police said Leah O’Brien, a 33-year-old teacher at DeKalb County’s Lakeside High School, was making a left turn when the students’ Dodge Charger t-boned her Hyundai.
“[The students] were very distraught,” a witness told WSB-TV. “Both of them kept repeating ‘Why did she have to pull out in front of us?’”
According to Lakeside’s principal, O’Brien knew the students.
“The more interesting fact, Ms. O’Brien was a FCCLA chairperson. She sponsored that club. These kids were both in that club,” she told WSB-TV.
Neither of the teens were injured; O’Brien’s eight-year-old daughter is in critical but stable condition.
