The governor of the brave state of Texas has announced that his state will refuse to accept any refugees who have fled war-torn Syria. In a letter announcing his decision, Gov. Greg Abbott “demanded” that President Obama consider a similar tactic following Friday’s deadly attacks in Paris.

From Abbott’s letter:

As governor of Texas, I write to inform you that the State of Texas will not accept any refugees from Syria in the wake of the deadly terrorist attack in Paris.

Further, I and millions of Americans implore you to halt your plans to accept more Syrian refugees in the United States. A Syrian “refugee” appears to have been part of the Paris terror attack. American humanitarian compassion could be exploited to expose Americans to similar deadly danger. The reasons for such concerns are plentiful.

Yesterday, the governors of Alabama and Michigan announced that they were suspending the relocation of Syrian refugees to their states.

Obama, for his part, seems unfazed and said at a press conference today that he remains committed to helping Syrian refugees.

“The people who are fleeing Syria are the most harmed by terrorism,” he said. “It it is very important..that we do not close our hearts to those victims of such violence and, somehow start equating the issue of refugees with the issue of terrorism.”

“We don’t have a religious test to our compassion,” he added.

UPDATE 12:06p.m.: Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal issued an executive order on Monday morning to prevent Syrian refugees from being resettled in Louisiana.
