ThinkProgress Staffers Unionize as Media Union Train Rolls On
Editorial staffers at the liberal news site ThinkProgress have voted to unionize, marking a half-dozen media unions announced this year.
The request to unionize with the Writers Guild East (the same union as Gawker Media editorial staffers) was reportedly unanimous among editorial staffers, and the union was immediately recognized by management. Isn’t that nice? ThinkProgress joins Gawker, Salon, Vice, The Guardian US, and Al-Jazeera America in the hot hot trend of editorial staff unionizing this year.
ThinkProgress is an explicitly progressive outlet, and their management did not oppose their union efforts, which means they acted consistently with their stated ideals, which is how it is supposed to work, but which is more than you can say for every media outlet.
