The NYC Dunkin' Donuts location at 37th Street and 8th Avenue has some explaining to do after a video surfaced earlier this week showing a rat just doing rat things on top of some pastries.

The donut-fed monster was not alone, according to the man who filmed the video. "My phone ran out of power, or I would've filmed the outright nine deep rat assault which followed the action above," wrote Pjayone.

"The items in the video that are being besieged upon by the rats were to be sold for that mornings breakfast rush. The events you see in videos happened at two-thirty in the morning," he elaborated.

Gothamist checked Health Department records on that particular Dunkin' and found it received an "A" grade at its last inspection, in November 2013. The manager denies that his location has "any issue like that."

Dunkin' Donuts corporate responded with the following statement:

"We take this matter very seriously. Immediately upon learning of the situation at the Dunkin' Donuts restaurant at 265 West 37th Street, a certified Operations Manager inspected the restaurant to ensure that all appropriate Dunkin' Donuts food safety standards are being followed."

They didn't elaborate on what the inspector found.

Update: The Dunkin' location has been shut down by the Health Department. Here's the official statement:

Dunkin' Donuts was closed by the Health Department yesterday because of a public health hazard that could not be corrected at the time of the inspection. In this case, the restaurant had a severe pest infestation that will require professional pest control services. They were also cited for other critical violations, including inadequate hand washing facilities and food not being protected from contamination.
