Former professional ballplayer Lamar Odom lies in a coma in a Nevada hospital, and TMZ is reporting that his ex-wife, professional Kardashian Khloe Kardashian, is in charge of making his life-or-death medical decisions. Because she’s not his ex-wife after all—they’re still married. Holy shit.

Although Odom and Kardashian filed for divorce earlier this year and separated for over a year before that, a backlog in the courts means the split might not be final for another two months.

Odom was rushed to a Nevada hospital after being removed, unconscious, from the Nevada brothel where he reportedly took herbal viagra (and, allegedly, other things). Khloe and some of her family rushed to visit him—reportedly with a camera crew from their reality show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

It turned out there was no camera crew, though: just a distraught Khloe, who recently said she still loves Odom and would still be married to him if he were able to get his life together.

“I will never, ever not love Lamar,” she said in August, when they both finally signed their divorce papers, “I was so obsessed with him in a healthy way. He was my husband, and I still wish he was, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.”

If any situation has ever warranted empathy for a member of the Kardashian clan, this is it.
