Twitter Trolls Mourn Lou Reed's Passing with a Lou Bega Death Hoax
Late-90s pop sensation Lou Bega, known to fans of fleeting fame as the Mambo No. 5 guy, resurfaced yesterday after years of obscurity...to shoot down rumors that he had died.
It seems a bunch of Twitter trolls decided to have some fun with the similitude of Bega's first name and that of actually-deceased musician Lou Reed, and started tweeting out shorthand eulogies for the former:
rip lou bega

RIP Lou Bega, may you find a little bit of peace in your eternal rest; may a little bit of you make us your friend

Somewhere along the line a media outlet or two got taken, and Bega suddenly found himself with a little bit of buzz for the first time in over a decade.
"[I] have been receiving Tons of condolences because of a Journalist confusing our Identities," Bega wrote on his official Facebook page. "Lou Bega sends his condolences to mr.Reeds Family."
And before you start freaking out, Grumpy Cat is also still alive.
