U.S. Marine Identified as Suspect in 'Random' Shooting Spree in Texas
An active-duty Marine named Esteban J. Smith has been identified as the suspect in a violent and apparently random series of shooting in West Texas.
The shooting spree spanned two counties as Smith shot from an assault rifle in the back of a pickup truck. The shootings started early Sunday morning and lasted for an hour and a half before Smith was killed by authorities. He shot at six people, killing a 41-year-old woman and wounding the five others. He had an assault rifle, a handgun, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition with him in his truck.
Smith was from Camp Lejeune Marine Corps base in North Carolina. He was already wanted in regards to the murder of a woman in a Jacksonville, North Carolina motel room.
