Twenty-four hours after two of their colleagues were murdered live on their show, the hosts of WDBJ’s Mornin’ returned to the air to honor slain reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward. “Joining hands here on the desk,” anchor Kimberly McBroom said after a moment of silence. “It’s the only way to do it.”

“It was around this time that we went live to Alison Parker and photojournalist Adam Ward,” Park said as she held the hands of weatherman Leo Hirsbrunner and anchor Steve Grant, who is on loan from KYTV in Missouri to help the station. “They were out in the field. The story was like so many others they did all the time, reporting on our hometowns. They were at Bridgewater Plaza to report on a happy event, the 50th anniversary of the lake. Just a feature. And it was during a conversation with Vicki Garnder about another reason why we love living here when the peacefulness of community was shattered. As we approach that moment we want to pause and reflect and share once again what made these two so special.”

Meanwhile, the family of Vester Flanagan, who went by Bryce Williams professionally, has released a statement:

“It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we express our deepest condolences to the families of Alison Parker and Adam Ward. We are also praying for the recovery of Vicki Gardner. Our thoughts and prayers at this time are with the victims’ families and the WBDJ7 NEWS family. Words cannot express the hurt that we feel for the victims. Our family is asking that the media respect our privacy.”
