More than a month after discovering the body of an up-and-coming young D.C. attorney in an upscale hotel room, police believe they have a lead: a 21-year-old woman caught on surveillance cameras the night of the murder.

According to reports, David Messerschmitt, a 30-year-old associate with DLA Piper, texted his wife on Feb. 9 to let her know he’d be home in an hour. He would not be heard from again. Although it’s still unclear what led police to initially check the Donovan House, officers soon confirmed he was a guest there and discovered his body the next day. Via Fox DC:

David Messerschmitt was found stabbed to death inside a fourth floor room at the trendy D.C. hotel on February 10.

According to court documents, officers found blood on the floor, walls and the door of the room. A wallet was found next to Messerschmitt with various credit cards and identifying documents spread throughout the room.

The affidavit says credit cards, an HP computer, lubricant, condom, enema, cell phone, bedding, watch, towel, curtain and swabs were some of the evidence seized in the search. Fingerprints were also found in the room.

Last week, Messerschmitt’s widow, Kim Vuong, held a press conference asking the public to help identify a person of interest caught on a hotel surveillance video, saying, ”In one day, I lost the most important person in my life and the man I loved so much. And I have no answers.”

Now, cops say they’ve identified the woman: 21-year-old Jamyra Gallmon, a resident of Southeast D.C.

She has reportedly been charged with first-degree felony murder.
