We do love our documents at Defamer. This email from Warner Music Group head Lyor Cohen announces that they've settled their lawsuit with Madonna's Maverick label—by buying her out. We're not sure why a settlement suddenly materialized, but we suspect someone at Kabbalah High Command pressed a button on their celebrity-control console, making Madonna's red string bracelet start vibrating and tell her it was time to sell.

Text of the email is after the jump.

Dear Colleagues:

I'm pleased to report to you that Warner Music Group and Maverick have settled the litigation between the two companies and extended and restructured the terms of our joint venture.

As part of our new agreement, Warner Music will purchase the interests in Maverick held by Madonna and by the label's COO Ronnie Dashev, and thus become majority owner of the label. I am also pleased to tell you that Maverick partner Guy Oseary, one of the most respected A&R executives in the industry, will sign a new multi-year contract with Maverick.

Maverick will continue to operate as a stand-alone label, and the new structure will enable Guy to do what he does best, which is to discover and sign new talent. Maverick will also draw on the substantial resources and expertise of Warner Bros. Records and its staff.

As Maverick continues to break new artists such as Michelle Branch and Story of the Year, and as they continue to build a legacy of great artists with Alanis Morissette, The Prodigy and The Deftones, we look forward to continuing our work with Guy. I also want to say thank you to Madonna, an incredible artist with whom I'm proud to be associated, and to Ronnie for the exceptional work they've done in bringing the world such great music through Maverick.

Sincerely,

Lyor Cohen
