Breaking! Celebrity Photos "Retouched"!
The New York Daily News' 'THERSDAY' section breaks a story almost as big as The Pentagon Papers: Celebrities are not as flawless as photos of them in glossy magazines suggests:
"The technology has gotten to the point where it's just very, very easy to retouch a picture," says New York portraitist Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, who has photographed everyone from Lou Reed (wrinkled) to Hillary Clinton (not). "I think stars demand it. And I think magazines give in. It's a very common conversation in my studio: Quote, I assume you're going to retouch this, end quote."
This is, in a word, quote devastating, unquote. We'll be offline the rest of the day, shaking under the covers and speed-dialing our shrink.
