The Hackneyed Heart of Lenore Skenazy
In the wake of the terrible attacks on London, no New Yorker's empathetic arms are quite so extended as those of Daily News columnist and Gawker False Idol Lenore Skenazy. Per usual, her poetic, deep, and original words have left us feeling rather moved. You, too, can find comfort in her prose:
We KNOW how chaotic London must have been yesterday morning. We KNOW how out of their minds people must have been when their phones didn't work. We KNOW how many people are saying over and over to themselves right now, "If only he'd taken a later train." [...]
As I made my son's bed this morning (I know, I'm spoiling him), I found myself humming, "It's A Small World After All." Ah, the subconscious, back to its old tricks.
We KNOW, Lenore, that you just lifted that "small world" sentiment from your high school graduation speech. We KNOW that you also tried to work Oh, the Places You'll Go into this column. And we KNOW what many readers are saying over and over to themselves right now, "If only Lenore had never learned to hold a pen." Ah, the Skenazy, back to her old tedium.
