Earlier this morning, we submitted for your inspection a photo of Jessica Simpson autographing a fan's Louis Vuitton bag — which, according to an onlooker, Simpson didn't want to sign because the bag was real. Or so she thought. After the jump, your detailed analyses.

• "The stitching on the cowhide trim handles is not as precise or as yellow as it is in a true Louis. And that strap! The cowhide strap always gives it away in fakes. It's always just a little too orange or pink to be real. A true cowhide strap is a natural buff color, like sand, not Wet-n-Wild putty lipstick."

• "It looks fake. The strap should have a darker edge to it because it would be real leather. And the hinge for the strap is too big - the real one has a hinge with a smaller gap. It's a Luco knock-off."

• "Even in that photo you can see how red the sides of the handles are, LV is chocolate/caramel and real LV would hold its form much better..."

• "I used to work for a law firm that represented Louis Vuitton and all I would do all day was search ebay and other auction houses looking for fake LV bags. The pattern on their bags is always symmetrical. Since some of the bag is cutoff in the photo, it's difficult to tell. But it looks like there is an LV that is cut off by one of the straps, whereas the LV near the other strap is much further away. It certainly appears to be asymmetrical."

And, in defense of Simpson and the fan's bag:

• "It looks real to me. It's the Vavin Grand model from LV's "city" line of bags. Unlike a lot of LV bags, it has relatively low set buckles, and the straps themselves have square cut ends. I don't see anything here that sets it off as a fake."

We should note that this sole conflicting opinion comes from a straight male, so it should be disregarded. Thus the verdict is in: Our tabloidian pop tartlet du jour doesn't even know the quality of that which she spends her millions on. Leave her, America, and free yourself from the scent of her Designer Imposters Primo!
