The fallout from Richard Matt and David Sweat’s historic prison escape continued Tuesday morning, when the New York State Department of Corrections announced that a dozen correctional officers and prison executives at Clinton Correctional facility have been placed on leave.

Three people on the prison’s executive team and nine members of its security staff have been suspended, according to the NY DOC’s statement, though no names or titles were released. NBC News reports that Steven Racette, the prison superintendent, and his his deputy, Stephen Browne, were among those placed on leave.

Earlier this month, Clinton employees Joyce “Tillie” Mitchell and Gene Palmer were arrested for allegedly helping Matt and Sweat escape. Mitchell, who reportedly had a sexual relationship with Matt, has been charged with two felonies—promoting first degree prison contraband and fourth degree criminal facility; Palmer, who reportedly received portraits painted by Matt in exchange for his help, has been charged with promoting dangerous prison contraband, destroying evidence, and official misconduct.

Matt was killed during a shootout Friday evening. Sweat was wounded and arrested Sunday afternoon, and is reportedly in stable condition.
