Liz Smith: Loves Pets, Indifferent to People
We know we often don't react to news — especially news of human tragedies — the way we're supposed to. And so we reading Liz Smith today, we got worried:
This week's tragic death of philanthropist Andrea Bronfman, killed by a hired taxi while walking her dog at Fifth Avenue and 65th Street, left most of us hanging, not knowing the fate of "Yoffi," her pure-bred Canaan. But The Sun kindly tells us that the dog was unharmed.
Is it insensitive that the fate of Yoffi never even crossed our mind when we read this news the other day? (We must have been distracted by feeling a little bad about the woman mowed down by a taxi while out for a walk.)
That said, we do find ourselves worried about Smith's pets. Who feeds them, after all, while she's off being crazy?
