From the Times:

Mary Cheney, at a Glamour magazine panel at Barnard College Wednesday, said of her baby: "It is not a political statement. It is not a prop to be used in a debate, on either side of a political issue. It is my child."

From a tipster:

Everyone's favorite Thursgay Styles reporter Alex Kuczynski was on the panel. Despite all of the panel's talk about how they're comfortable with getting older, etc., when Alex K. was walking in I overheard her saying to someone "Well, I only turned 39 a couple of weeks ago, so I'm still really 38." More pearls of wisdom from her include saying that raising step kids is easy because all you have to do is cheer them on at graduation. She also gave us all this great advice about how to be a successful career woman: She told us about how no one would hire her for journalism jobs (despite winning a fellowship) because she couldn't type. She worked at a publishing house during the day and at a law firm at night, proofreading, for eight years so that she could afford to live in the city. And did this inspiring tale end with some big payoff, like a job at the Times? No. It ended with "And then I met my husband and he's well-off, so now I don't have to worry anymore! I've got the diamond ring and everything."

All in all, a great day for women's rights.
