Hoping to nip in the bud any potential controversy raised by the recent public refusals of Democratic presidential nominee hopeful (and WGA rally superstar!) John Edwards and Barack Obama's wife to take their campaigns to The View's kingmaking couch as a show of solidarity with striking scribes, Whoopi Goldberg today explained the show's Official Position on Writers:

They support them! Also: You shouldn't feel guilty about watching their show during the strike, as it features no monologue that would require Guild-covered gag-writing services (unlike a certain other picket-line-crosser's chatfest), and, in the words of Barbara Walters, all of their "hot topics are impromptu." Plus: those squirrelly politicians are cynically trying to score easy points off the defenseless, writer-positive co-hosts, says designated instigator Joy Behar. Now that the ladies' stance on this matter is crystal clear, please adjust your midday TV-watching plans accordingly.
