Relatedly (not really, but play along that this is an obvious segue?), Katha Pollitt has some amazing thing in the Nation this week about how great it would be if some lyin', cheatin' politician a la Spitzface said to his wife before his press conference, "You know, honey, I got myself in this mess, and I don't think you should withstand any more public humiliation than you already have, so feel free not to join me up there on that podium." Point being [grasping at straws here?], men are pigs, maybe?

But yeah, too bad Robin Wright seems to be in line for Uma's rejects and not for, I dunno, Jason Lewis and his kind.

@Unfun: Agreed, all. Demi and Ashton ... Patti Smith and Oliver Something [her bestudly young guitarist] ... Roseanne and her bo-hunky young (use to be) bodyguard—it's definitely a step in the proverbial right direction, if you're a we'll-only-have-equality-if-we-can-invert-the-ugly-male-rock-star/fetching-young-female-model -paradigm feminazi, like me. The fact that I can only think of a few examples of older, powerful women with beefcakey young things? NOT STEP-IN-THE-RIGHT-DIRECTION ENOUGH.

Relatedly, the actress who played Weezey Jefferson was 20 years older than the guy who played Mr. Jefferson, and Mrs. Good Times was 19 years older than Mr. Good Times. Yet another reason why brown ladies RULE.

You know, I was hoping in vain for Robin Wright to start boinking random younger Hollywood hunks in an effort to keep up with Sean Penn, of late seen with much younger model Petra Nemcova. You know, show the men we can be as juvenile, sex-obsessed, and predictable as they are, engaging in flings with flavor of the month types/arm candy. Alas, it was not meant to be.

@ginger rant: You're a woman after my own heart. Seriously. Sorry but I love the Demi Moore/Ashton thing. She's fucking HAWT (if plasticky) and I love how it throws so many societal conventions on their asses. Not that I want women to turn piggy too, but I want older women to get theirs and be loved and appreciated for being sexy. I'll definitely read the Pollitt thing.
