Donny Deutsch's Big Ideas on the Economy, Weather
The 10th annual Love Heals charity event, which benefits the Alison Gertz Foundation for AIDS Education, took place on Saturday night. Originally scheduled for Luna Farm in Sagaponack, the event had to be moved to Polish Hall in Southampton due to the never-ending rain. But the downpour didn't stop fearless reporter Douglas Marshall from catching up with Donny Deutsch about both the gloomy weather and gloomy economy:
Q: Any big ideas for people who are dealing with the recession and may be out of work right now?
A: This is the time to be creative and crazy. If you are out of work, don't just send out a resume. Come up with a crazy idea, knock on someone's door, leave something at their doorstep. Do anything you need to do. If you ever had a dream of starting your own business, now is the time to do it. Tons of new businesses came out of the Great Depression. This is what I call "What the fuck?" time: If you're out of work and you have an idea, go for it.
Q: So what's with all the rain? Do you think it makes people more productive and creative since they can't lounge at the beach?
A: I think we've woken up in the Twilight Zone and we're all in Seattle now. I think the rain just makes people sad and down, and light is very important to creativity. Any office space I've ever designed has been designed around light. I don't think rain is good for anything other than maybe some crops.
