Anna Wintour Has No Patience for the European Work Ethic
Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour is in Paris this week to attend the annual couture shows, naturally. But it seems she's also been doing a little lobbying on the side.
In between fashion shows Monday, Anna Wintour, the influential editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine, told French officials that the country doesn't do enough to support its fashion sector, industry minister Christian Estrosi said. Ms. Wintour encouraged the French government to provide more backing for young designers, according to Mr. Estrosi.
And it looks like the meeting paid off! Thanks to Anna, France's pesky law restricting how many hours a week French employees are allowed to work may soon be lifted for people who work in the fashion industry:
And Mr. Estrosi said he had pledged to Ms. Wintour to relax the country's 35-hour work week for fashion-house employees who need to work twice that amount in the weeks before fashion shows.
And now it's off to Beijing, where she'll meet with top Chinese officials and discuss ways to increase productivity at sweatshops in Guangdong province.
