1916 Bird Strike: A Warning From the Past
Birds hate us, and our way of life. Specifially the flying part of our way of life. So for a hundred years they've been hurling themselves into our aircraft, as a Times investigation now reveals.
Last week, some geese took down a jet, sending a US Airways Airbus A320 right into the Hudson river after homicide bombing the jet's engines. The Times tracked down this photo of a thwarted terrorist hawk tangled in the wires of a French Military Aeroplane. The French pilot, pictured, landed the craft safely and promptly surrendered to the bird. (Ha ha stupid French.) This was the world's first recorded Bird Strike, but it would not be the last.
