Elie Wiesel, author, survivor, voice of morality, expert on evil, has found someone he'd like locked up and tortured for crimes against humanity: Bernie Madoff, who took all his money.

Getting bilked by a con artist is, obviously, very upsetting, and there is very probably something wrong with Bernie Madoff, but one would hope that a renowned authority on the evils regular men can do would have a little more perspective about this sort of thing.

" ‘Psychopath' - it's too nice a word for him," Mr. Wiesel said in his first public comments on Mr. Madoff and the Ponzi scheme he is accused of perpetrating on thousands of individuals and charities, including the Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity.

" ‘Sociopath,' ‘psychopath,' it means there is a sickness, a pathology. This man knew what he was doing. I would simply call him thief, scoundrel, criminal."

And so Wiesel would like Madoff "in a solitary cell with a screen, and on that on that screen for at least five years of his life, every day and every night, there should be pictures of his victims, one, after the other, after the other." It should be noted that Madoff did not actually kill or even harm any of his victims, all of whom are just less rich for having invested with him, due to his promises of impossible risk-free profit, forever.

So yeah. Guy has every right to be pissed! But seriously. A crime is not worse because it happened to a really great guy and his friends.
