Boeing Develops a Laser to Shoot Missiles Out of the Sky
Video was released today by the US Missile Defense Agency of the Airborne Laser Test Bed (ALTB); a gigantic laser used to shoot ballistics out of the sky. The beams top 100 kilowatts and will be scalable for the future.
The reality for this huge (and seemingly awesome) laser is that it will probably not be used to actually stop ballistic missiles anytime soon. Because of Obama's scaling back on missile defense, the ALTB has been put on the back-burner for now.
It's still cool to think that in this day and age, shooting missiles out of the sky with humongous friggin' laser beams is close to a reality.
