Representative Bart Stupak hijacked the most important domestic policy priority of the Democratic party until the bill was suitably damaging to one of the most important constituencies of the party. Now he wants to quit because no one likes him.

Stupak refused to vote for health insurance reform until he could be convinced that the bill would prevent poor and working class women from having the autonomy to choose whether or not to carry a child to term. This did not endear him to "the left." Then he voted for the bill. This did not endear him to "the right."

So no one likes this stupid jerk. He even had to move out of his creepy, Family-owned Christian cult C Street townhouse. And he's getting those terrible voicemails.

MSNBC's First Read reports that Democrats are worried that he will decide not to run for reelection.

That said, there is still a concern that some important incumbents in districts that they are uniquely suited could call it quits. At the top of the concern list this week: Michigan Democrat Bart Stupak. The Democrat best known this year as the Democrat who delivered the winning margin of votes for the president's health-care reform bill is said to be simply exhausted. The criticism he received — first from the left, and then from the right — has worn him and his family out. And if he had to make the decision now, he'd probably NOT run. As of this writing, a bunch of senior Democrats (many of the same ones who twisted his arm on the health care vote) are trying to talk him into running.

Sad. Poor sad jerk. Poor sad jerk who's completely expendable and useless to the party.
