Al Roker
The resident weatherman of The Today Show, Roker has been delivering the forecast to NBC viewers since 1996.
Roker was born in 1954 is Queens and attended SUNY Oswego, where he double-majored in graphic design and broadcasting/journalism. Before becoming the most ubiquitous face of weather news in the United States, Roker worked for a CBS affiliate in Syracuse while he was still enrolled in school. Roker began his tenure at NBC in 1978, when he was hired at a station in Cleveland. After five years in Cleveland, Roker landed a promotion and a move to New York City and quickly became the station's regular weeknight weathercaster. In the early 90s Roker began substituting for forecaster Willard Scott on The Today Show, and in 1996, after Willard announced his semi-retirement, Roker became the full-time (and full-figured) Today Show weatherman. He gained notoriety for not only delivering the weather, but engaging audience members who were waiting outside the studio. Roker is also the co-author of a series of murder mystery novels centered around Billy Blessing, a celebrity chef turned amateur detective. The three novels center on murders committed on morning show sets (perhaps Roker has it out for Matt Lauer?).
Beyond his accurate weather predictions, Roker is known for dropping a lot of weight after undergoing gastric bypass surgery. Roker lost 115 pounds after his surgery and adding exercise to his daily routine - Roker ran (and finished!) the NYC Marathon in 2010.
Roker is married to his third wife, fellow journalist Deborah Roberts. He has two children with Deborah and two from earlier relationships. [Image via Getty]
