Genevieve Jones
A fixture at events around town, Genevieve Jones is one of the few young African-American women on the social scene and one of the more controversial, too. Once described by Vogue as the "Girl of the Moment," Jones's "It" girl status dissipated in late 2006 after a series of articles revealed she'd been lying about her age and family roots. She's since founded her own line of jewelry.
Born in New York and raised in Baton Rouge Louisiana, Jones ostensibly appeared on the social scene out of thin air. Donning designer duds with conviction, Jones clawed her way onto the fashion circuit with few asking questions and many, including Zac Posen and Michael Kors, offering her their clothes. In the pre-Kardashian world where fame required some sort of career or at least a worthy provenance, after Vogue, crowned Jones the "Girl of the Moment" in 2006, inevitable backlash ensued, and when it was finally revealed that Jones lied about her age and was—gasp—in her thirties, she returned to Baton Rouge until the "frenzy" over her demonic lies died down. However, she has since plodded a comeback with her high end eponymous jewelry line—this time, though she credits her friends like Lauren Santo Domingo and Fabiola Beracasa on her website for their "support" when they wear her baubles.
