The Supreme Court has struck down a federal law against videos depicting animal cruelty. The justices voted 8-1 to overturn the ban on free speech grounds, with only Samuel Alito dissenting.

The law was aimed at so-called "crush videos," which were a thing to be hysterical about in the '90s. (Seriously, did these exist? There was like one of them, probably, right?) But the court specifically overturned the conviction of a guy who was imprisoned for videos he made about dogfights, which is a totally different thing and pretty clear proof that the law was not being enforced as intended.

This court, they're such free speech absolutists! When it comes to evil, anyway.
