As an old media institution, Vogue has been loath to get jiggy with the future. Now editor-in-chief Anna Wintour says that she "embraces" fashion bloggers, as long as they know that Vogue is still better than they are.

Last night she and European editor-at-large Hamish Bowles spoke about the history of fashion photography at the Pratt Institute. The Cut has her response to one of the predetermined audience questions about what she thinks of fashion bloggers:

We love as much coverage of fashion as possible. We don't care at all where it comes from, and we embrace bloggers and video and social networking, and anyone that's talking about fashion is a good thing. And we now have our own website that incorporates all of that. But I think what's interesting to us with this new phenomenon that 'everyone's a fashion editor, everyone's a fashion writer' is that all of that actually helps Vogue, because we have access and the understanding of fashion that, forgive me, but maybe some bloggers and some of the newcomers to this world have a little bit less experience of, but as I said, the more the merrier. We embrace it.

"Embrace" is such a cold world. She doesn't "love" it, but since it's going to happen anyway, she'll give it an awkward little pat on the back. Not only that, but she wants fashion bloggers to know that Vogue continues to reign supreme whereas the blogs are just a bunch of wannabes waiting for Michael Kors cast-offs from three seasons ago to hit their local Marshall's. There is no technology that will ever be able to cloak barely disguised disdain.
