An intrepid masked thief, or thieves, broke into Paris' Museum of Modern Art yesterday and took five paintings by Picasso, Matisse, Braque, Modigliani and Leger, worth $123m. Officials admit, according to the BBC, that the alarm system was not working.

Which is probably why a masked man, caught on security cameras, was able to get in by cutting a padlock and breaking a window. He broke in, removed the five paintings (including Picasso's Dove with Green Peas, pictured) from their frames and was out again in 15 minutes. That was probably possible because there was no rappelling at all, no spraying special spray to show where the lasers are then hiring an acrobat to get past them and no walking really slow to dupe motion detectors.
