M.I.A. Throws Hissy Fit, Tweets Times Reporter's Cell Phone Number
The too-rich-to-sell-out rapper apparently doesn't like the New York Times Magazine cover story about her. She's so angry, in fact, she just shared writer Lynn Hirschberg's cell phone number with the world and instructed people to call her.
The magazine article tackles M.I.A.'s radical politics and her claims that she's down with the ghetto lifestyle (yo) even though she married a billionaire's son. Her response: posting Hirschberg's number on the internet.
She apparently believes Hirschberg is spouting lies, and yet she is the one who had to fool her fans into thinking it's her number. When she says, "I'm taking calls all day," she really means Hirschberg, which means the poor writer is probably being besieged by confused fauxhemians right now and will have to screen her calls for months or change her number. It would be really awesome if Hirschberg retaliated by Tweeting M.I.A.'s number, but we have a feeling that there are still people out there with some tact.
Update: Hirschberg told The Observer, "It's a fairly unethical thing to do, but I don't think it's surprising," she continued. "She's a provocateur, and provocateurs want to be provocative...[it's] infuriating and not surprising." She also says she won't change her number. You're braver than we are, Lynn.
