Last Tuesday, the New York Times raved that the "stylish and easy-to-use" iPad app Pulse gives "hope... [to] news organizations still puzzling over their iPad strategies." On Monday, New York Times lawyers had the app banned. That'll teach those hopemongers.

Insanely, the Times objects to Pulse, an RSS reader, for reading and displaying its RSS feeds. It's also mad that Pulse comes pre-bundled with a Times RSS feed, to encourage people to read the paper. If any other young Stanford University programmers are thinking of inventing interesting new ways to promote Times content, let this be a lesson to you: Don't you dare. The paper has its bright digital future well under control on its own, thank you very much.
