Canadian air force Captain Brian Bews is a lucky man. While training for an air show, he was beginning a maneuver called a High Alpha pass when sparks shot from the engine. He bailed out seconds before the plane exploded.

Captain Bews was training for the Alberta International Air Show 2010, scheduled for this weekend, when things went haywire. A witness told Canada's CTV News, "All of a sudden you could hear 'pop, pop, pop,'" and "I saw sparks come out of the one engine. The plane started banking over to the side. That's when the pilot bailed out with his parachute." Bews is said to be okay, and was released from the hospital yesterday.

Added bonus: The Bee Gees's hit Stayin' Alive just happened to be playing for onlookers during the maneuver. Seriously.
