Twitter has confirmed a report that it's testing inline video and images, just in case the microblogging service wasn't distracting enough for you already.

Mashable's Ben Parr wrote about a new "show photos and videos" setting some Twitter users are seeing (below), and the company sent along a statement that it will potentially show pictures and videos on its website just like it does on its iPhone app. "Potentially" being the operative word, since it's not at all clear how a service that's had trouble handling its all-text messages and that's still groping for a business model will manage to reliably and profitably host videos, if that is in fact the plan. We have a feeling the words "sponsored video tweet" will be involved in answering that question, and do not look forward to it.
