Van Gogh Painting Stolen for the Second Time
A painting by Vincent van Gogh was reportedly stolen from the Mahmoud Khalil Museum in Egypt today. Estimates put the value of the painting, "Poppy Flowers" at $50 million. Also, this is the second time the painting has been stolen.
The painting, which is also called "Vase with Flowers," was stolen from the same museum in 1978. It was recovered two years later in Kuwait and returned. And while authorities said at the time three Egyptians had stolen it and told the authorities, no mention was ever made of the men being convicted.
Culture Minister Farouk Hosni told the AP he has alerted airports and seaports and a search is underway. Nine other paintings were stolen, and later recovered, from the same museum last year. Maybe it's time to upgrade security?
