In an unsurprising bit of ABC cross-promotion, Dancing with the Stars Palin-Peddler Mark Ballas guested on last night's Melissa & Joey, while Melissa exhibited some of the moves she learned at his side on DWTS Season 9.

The classic sitcom move would have been for Ballas to become unable to perform, forcing Joey to take his place in Melissa's embrace. This is Melissa & Joey, however, a show that has demonstrated an affection for poking fun at its own genre; thus, it is Melissa who pulls up lame, forcing Joey into the arms of Mark. But... dudes dancing with dudes?!

So, what do you think? It's no Rubicon, where the fact that one character has a same-sex life partner is treated with the sort of unspectacular normalcy that represents true cultural progress, but at the same time, I wouldn't call this Dancing with the Stars of Toledo routine as offensive as something like I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry.
