Anderson Cooper Angry at Vince Vaughn's Gay Joke (Updated)
Anderson Cooper was on Ellen recently talking about gay bullying, and he mentioned (but not by name) the trailer for the Vince Vaughn comedy The Dilemma, which prominently features a gay joke. Cooper is not happy with it, understandably.
Now, according to Deadline, Universal is facing pressure to reedit the ad to take the gay thing out. This despite the fact that, says a studio employee, "we showed the trailer to gay groups like GLAAD and gay executives here and gays in our marketing department and no one was offended and everyone had a positive response." You just can't make the gays happy, I guess! Upate: A GLAAD spokesperson tells us: "GLAAD does not and did not support this trailer."
If they do take it out, it's a shame, because the joke in the trailer is really, really funny. What with all the hilarious "gay = stupid" stuff that's always such classy, grownup humor. Ah well. We really should just move on and focus on what is otherwise a likable, down-to-earth kind of Vaughn-style comedy, in which fat, dumpy loudmouths are always marrying impossibly beautiful young women. That's the real stuff.
Cooper, meanwhile, will be doing a 60 Minutes profile on noted gay activist Eminem.
