The Manchester Union Leader, the biggest paper in New Hampshire, is refusing to run notices for gay weddings. Even though gay marriage is legal in New Hampshire. I guess they're hoping if they ignore it, gay marriage will go away?

The Union Leader, which, according to New Hampshire gay marriage activist Mo Baxley, is opposed "to gays and lesbians being treated equally under the law," wouldn't publish a wedding announcement for Greg Gould, a Manchester native, and Aurelio Tine, despite the fact that their marriage is legal in the eyes of New Hampshire state law, as well as the Old Man of the Mountain.

Don't worry, though! Union Leader publisher Joseph McQuaid wants you to know that his paper isn't "anti-gay." Just anti-letting-gay-people-in-his-newspaper, according to a statement reproduced by Queerty:

We are for marriage remaining the important man-woman institution it has always been.
While the law sanctions gay marriage, it neither demands that churches perform them or that our First Amendment right to choose what we print be suspended. In accordance with that right, we continue our longstanding policy of printing letters to the editor from New Hampshire citizens, whether or not they agree with us.

Well, he's right: The First Amendment gives him the right to be a dick. Luckily, though, we are all free not to buy the Manchester Union Leader! In fact, I have been exercising that freedom for several years now already.
