Good news, everyone! Sarah Palin is "seriously considering" running for president in 2012. Don't be nervous for her, though—she believes she can beat President Obama.

Is Sarah Palin qualified to be president? Well, no, not really, at all, except in the most technical, constitutional sense. What is she qualified to do? Basically, just to be a person who is always on television, and in the newspapers, and on general-interest news and gossip blogs, because she has honed the very special skill of "being the kind of person who people have strong opinions about" to an eerie perfection.

So when she says stuff like this to Barbara Walters, it's probably best to consider that she has a book coming out this week:

"I'm looking at the lay of the land now, and ... trying to figure that out, if it's a good thing for the country, for the discourse, for my family, if it's a good thing," Palin said in an interview scheduled to air in full Dec. 9 on ABC as part of Walters' "10 Most Fascinating People" of 2010.

Asked Walters: "If you ran for president, could you beat Barack Obama?"

"I believe so," Palin said.

But, look, on the off-chance that she's not just saying stuff that will keep people paying attention to her, let's help her figure some of that out: Governor Palin, your hypothetical candidacy for President would not be a good thing for the country. It would not be a good thing for "the discourse." It would probably not be a good thing for your family, though, who knows what's best for Willow and Bristol, at this point. No, you running for president wouldn't be a good thing. So, please, you know, just don't.
