Sailor Caught Selling Top Secret Docs to Undercover Agent
Hey, military people leaking sexy secret documents: Your counterparty could be an undercover federal agent who'll arrest you! So it went with petty officer Bryan Minkyu Martin, who's now in custody at Fort Bragg after a transaction gone awry.
So here we have a 22-year-old petty officer at Fort Bragg, who enlisted in 2006 and was granted "top secret" security clearance for Afghanistan war intelligence one year later — as in, when he was 19. Again, how shocking that with a million people being granted top-secret access these days, combined with the Power of the Internet, information gets around.
Unless you get stung in the process, like Bryan Minkyu Martin did:
The sailor, petty officer Bryan Minkyu Martin, was taken into custody at Ft. Bragg in North Carolina but has not yet been charged, according to a spokesperson for the investigative service.
According to the affidavit, Martin sold 51 pages of "secret" and "top secret" documents to an FBI undercover agent posing as a representative of an unnamed foreign government.
He was paid $2,000 for the documents, according to the affidavit
A foreign government? As in, an entity with formidable purchasing power? Cashing out at $2,000 makes him only slightly better a negotiator than Barack Obama.
