Hard-Partying Composer's Son Questioned In Soho House Death
33-year-old swimsuit designer Sylvie Cachay has been identified as the woman found dead in a bathtub at Manhattan's posh Soho House hotel. Just hours before her body was discovered she dumped her boyfriend, the privileged son of an Oscar-winning composer.
Cachay, a Peruvian and U.S. citizen, started her fashion career as an intern for Marc Jacobs, according to DNAInfo. She was eventually discovered by Victoria's Secret and designed swimwear for them until starting her own luxury swimwear company, SYLVA.
Beautiful and successful, she seems an unlikely match for 24-year-old Nicholas Brooks, whose main accomplishment appears to be graduating from his private school in the Bronx and producing an impressive gallery of intoxicated Facebook photos during a stint at the University of Colorado. Brooks is the son of the composer Joseph Brooks, who won an Oscar in 1977 for best song with "Light Up My Life" and also happened to have been arrested last year for sexually assaulting 11 starlets, casting couch-style.
Wednesday night, Cachay checked into room 19 at the Soho House with Brooks, and a source tells the New York Post that she proceeded to dump him. Cachay was found dead in the room's bathtub Thursday morning, wearing only a sweater and panties. Cops say there was "no obvious trauma". But the couple staying next door reports some strange happenings early Thursday morning:
"I heard her speaking Russian. She said (in Russian) 'Stop! Don't do it. Stop! I just thought it was people having a good time."
Police questioned Brooks this evening, and an investigation is ongoing.
